ADA Transduced T-Cell Definition
T cells harvested from a patient with adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency and transduced with a vector containing the gene for ADA. ADA catalyzes the hydrolysis of adenosine to inosine; ADA deficiency causes a form of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). Following genetic modification, the T cells are returned to the patient, where they produce functional ADA. ADA-transduced T cells have been shown to improve immune function in individuals with ADA deficiency. (NCI04)
