ATL Derived Factor Definition
ATL Derived Factor (thioredoxin) appears to be a cytokine as well as an oxidoreductase involved in redox reactions through reversible oxidation of its active center dithiol to a disulfide, catalyzing dithiol-disulfide exchange reactions. It is ubiquitous, found in many organisms from plants and bacteria to mammals, and appears to have multiple substrates, including ribonuclease, choriogonadotropins, coagulation factors, glucocorticoid receptor, and insulin. ATL Derived Factor augments expression of the IL2R, TAC (IL2R/P55). (from OMIM 187700, Swiss-Prot P10599, and NCI)
