Activin-A Type-B Receptor Definition
Expressed in kidney, pancreas, brain, lung, and liver and encoded by human ACVR1B Gene (TGFBR Family), 505-aa 57-kD Activin A Type IB Receptor (isoforms A, B, and C) is a type I membrane protein with intracellular Ser/Thr kinase domain. Isoform A contains a complete kinase domain; B and C have truncated kinase domains and distinct C-termini. Activins signal through a transmembrane heteromeric complex of type I and type II receptors that all contain a ligand-binding extracellular domain with a cysteine-rich region. Type I receptors are essential for signaling and type II receptors are required for binding ligand. Type I and II receptors form a stable complex after ligand binding, resulting in phosphorylation of type I receptors by type II receptors.
