Encoded by human GOT1 Gene (Class-I Pyridoxal-Phosphate-Dependent Aminotransferase Family), 412-aa 46-kDa homodimeric cytoplasmic Aspartate Aminotransferase 1 is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme similar to mitochondrial GOT2 and involved in both amino acid metabolism and the urea and tricarboxylic acid cycles.
