Biphenyl Hydrolase-Like Protein Definition
Encoded by human BPHL Gene (Serine Hydrolase Family), 274-amino acid 30 kD Biphenyl Hydrolase-Related Protein, with structural similarity to enzymes involved in degradation of aromatic compounds, has a putative role in detoxification processes. Highest expression occurs in liver and kidney. Serine hydrolases contain serine in their active site and are grouped into subfamilies in terms of substrate specificity or amino acid sequence.
