Bone Morphogenetic Protein 5, encoded by the BMP5 gene, is a member of the TGF-beta family of growth factors. Morphogenetic Protein 5 signals through receptor serine/threonine kinases and induces cartilage and bone formation. It is expressed in the lungs and liver. (NCI)
