Bone Morphogenetic Protein-8 Definition
Bone morphogenetic protein 8 (BMP8), encoded by the BMP8 gene, is a member of the TGF-beta family of growth factors and signals through receptor serine/threonine kinases. BMP8 plays a role in calcium regulation and bone homeostasis. It induces cartilage and bone formation and may be the osteoinductive factor responsible for the phenomenon of epithelial osteogenesis.
