Human CD28 wild-type allele is located within 2q33 and is approximately 31 kb in length. This allele, which encodes T-cell-specific surface glycoprotein CD28 protein, is involved in the costimulation that is essential for CD4 -positive T-cell proliferation, survival, interleukin-2 production, and T-helper type-2 (Th2) development.
