CD8 Antigen Beta Polypeptide-1 Definition
CD8 Antigen Beta Polypeptide-1 is encoded by the CD8 Antigen Beta Polypeptide-1 gene (CD8B1) located at 2p12 and expressed as alternative membrane-associated cell surface or secreted isoforms in most suppressor and cytotoxic T lymphocytes. CD8 Antigen Beta Polypeptide 1 glycoprotein exhibits significant homology to Ig variable light chains and mediates efficient cell-cell interactions in the immune system, as an alpha/alpha or alpha/beta coreceptor with T-cell receptor. CD8B1 recognizes antigen displayed in an MHC I context by antigen presenting cells.
