Cholesterol Ester Transfer Protein Definition
Expressed in liver by human CETP Gene (BPI/LBP Family), 493-aa 55-kDa (precursor) secreted plasma Cholesterol Ester Transfer Protein is involved in the transfer of insoluble cholesteryl esters among lipoproteins in the reverse transport of cholesterol, a vital step in normal cholesterol metabolism and homeostasis. CETP may affect susceptibility to atherosclerosis and CETP defects cause CETP deficiency. (NCI)
