Core-Binding Factor Alpha Definition
Part of the heterodimeric transcription factor Core-Binding Factor. The CBFalpha subunit binds directly to the enhancer core DNA sequence on target genes, whereas the beta subunit does not bind the DNA directly but increases the affinity and stabilizes the binding of the alpha subunit to the DNA. Three homologous genes can encode for the CBFalpha subunit. Disruption of CBFA2 is associated with many leukemias, including AML, ALL, and CML.
