Cyclin-Dependent Kinase-1 Definition
A serine/threonine protein kinase subunit of the M-phase promoting factor complex, required for entry into S-phase and mitosis. A member of the CDC2/CDKX subfamily, p34(cdc2) forms a complex with a Cyclin, and phosphorylates RNA Polymerase II. CDC2 gene expression is transcriptionally regulated and phosphorylation regulates cdc2 activity. (from SWISS-PROT P06493, OMIM 116940, and NCI)
