Cytochrome P450-2B6 Definition
Expressed in liver, lung, and heart by phenobarbital-induced human CYP2B6 Gene (Cytochrome P450 Family), 491-aa 56-kDa Cytochrome P450 2B6 is an endoplasmic reticulum membrane-bound P450 heme-thiolate monooxygenase involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway that oxidizes diverse unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics such as cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide. Phosphorylation may decrease CYP2B6 activity. P450 enzymes catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. (NCI)
