Cytosolic Phospholipase-A2G4B Definition
Widely expressed (brain, pancreas strongest) by human PLA2G4B Gene, 913-aa 100-kD calcium-dependent Cytosolic Phospholipase A2G4B contains a calcium- and lipid-binding C2 domain and shares approximately 30% sequence identity with PLA2G4A and PLA2G4C, including conservation of 4 catalytically essential residues. PLA2G4B initiates production of inflammatory mediators by hydrolyzing membrane phospholipid sn-2 bonds, releasing arachidonic acid. (NCI)
