Human DHPS wild-type allele is located within 19p13.2-p13.1 and is approximately 6 kb in length. This allele, which encodes deoxyhypusine synthase protein, is involved in the biosynthesis of hypusine, an unusual amino acid found only in eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A.
