DNA Ligase-IV Definition
DNA ligase IV (LIG4), a 96-kD protein encoded by the LIG4 gene, belongs to the ATP-dependent DNA ligase family. LIG4 efficiently joins single-strand breaks in a double-stranded polydeoxynucleotide in an ATP-dependent reaction. LIG4 is the activity responsible for the ligation step in nonhomologous DNA end joining and in V(D)J recombination. Defects in LIG4 are the cause of LIG4 syndrome. (OMIM 601837)
