Erythrocyte-Brain Glucose Transporter Type-1 Definition
GLUT1 is an integral membrane glycoprotein involved in transporting glucose into most cells. It is consistently overexpressed in endometrial adenocarcinomas and atypical hyperplasia, but not in typical hyperplasia. Immunostaining for GLUT1 may distinguish benign endometrial hyperplasia from potentially malignant hyperplasia. GLUT1 immunoreactivity in endometrial hyperplasia appears to be a useful indicator of high risk for development of endometrial carcinoma. (from Medscape)
