Flow Cytometer Definition
An instrument that is able to count and sort microscopic particles suspended in a buffer. This complex instrument consists of a flow cell, at least one lamp or laser, a variable number of emission detectors or photomultipliers, a system that converts analog signals to digital, and a computer to run the system and collect and analyze the data output.
