GRP78 Protein Definition
Human GRP78 protein (654 aa, 72kDa) is encoded by the heat shock 70kDa protein 5 (HSPA5) gene. The protein is intracellularly localized in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen, and plays a role in the assembly of multimeric protein complexes inside the organelle. In addition, the protein is thought to function as a pro-survival protein, or an inhibitor of apoptosis.
