Encoded by human GTF3C1 Gene, 220-kD General Transcription Factor IIIC1 Alpha Subunit is a subunit of general transcription factor GTF3C, a component of RNA polymerase III. GTF3C is a multisubunit complex that binds B box promoter elements; GTF3C1 binds to the box B. GTF3C1 is absolutely required for RNA polymerase III transcription of 5S RNA, tRNA, and VAI RNA genes.
