Gingkgo Definition
A substance derived from the plant Ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo biloba leaf extract contains potent anti-oxidants and substances believed to improve blood flow to the brain and peripheral tissues. Ginkgo biloba exocarp polysaccharides (GBEP) can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis and differentiation of tumor cells. As a medicinal herb, ginkgo requires standardization for medicinal use; typically, a 50:1 extract of ginkgo leaf is used in ginkgo supplements. (NCI04)
