Glucosidase Inhibitor Definition
A class of agents that reversibly inhibit the membrane-bound intestinal glucosidases (usually alpha glucosidases), enzymes that hydrolyze complex sugars into glucose in the intestines, thereby delaying the metabolism of dietary carbohydrates and reducing postprandial plasma glucose. A glucosidase inhibitor is often structurally similar to glucose. (NCI04)
