Glycosyltransferase Definition
An enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of glycosyl groups to an acceptor. The acceptor molecules are frequently carbohydrate molecules, or inorganic phosphates. A special subsect of glycosyltransferases can also catalyze hydrolysis. Subclasses include Hexosyltransferases, Pentosyltransferases and Sialyltransferases. 2005
