Human HGF wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 7q21.1 and is approximately 68 kb in length. This allele, which encodes hepatocyte growth factor protein, plays a role in cellular growth, motility and morphogenesis by activating a tyrosine kinase signal transduction. These functions have a profound effect on angiogenesis and tissue regeneration.
