Homeobox Protein MSX-1 Definition
Encoded by human MSX1 Gene (MSH Family), 297-aa 31-kDa nuclear Homeobox Protein MSX-1 is a transcription repressor involved in craniofacial development, odontogenesis, and perhaps limb-pattern formation. MSX1 Defects cause hypodontia (HYD1), Witkop syndrome, nonsyndromic orofacial cleft (OFC) and possibly (deleted in) Wolf-Hirschorn syndrome (WHS). (NCI)
