ING1 wt Allele Definition
Human ING1 wild-type allele is located within 13q34 and is approximately 8 kb in length. This allele, which encodes inhibitor of growth protein 1, plays a role in the induction of p53-mediated apoptosis and modulation of p53-dependent transcriptional activation which results in the inhibition of cell growth. Certain allelic variants of the ING1 gene are associated with the development of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Expression of the ING1 gene is down-regulated in several types of cancer such as breast cancer, gastric cancer, neuroblastoma and non-small cell lung cancer.
