Intraarterial Route of Drug Administration Definition
Intraarterial drug injection or infusion is a method of delivering a drug directly into artery or arteries to localize its effect to a particular organ/body region, while minimizing the exposure of the body to potentially toxic effects of the agent. The method is considered more dangerous than intravenous administration and should be reserved to experts. The first-pass and cleansing effects of the lung are not available when the agent is given by this route.
