JUN Protein Definition
JUN protein is encoded by the serum-induced human c-JUN Gene (JUN Family) at 1p32-p31, dimeric DNA-binding JUN Protein (331-aa, 35.7-kDa) is involved in growth-related transcriptional control. JUN appears to comprise three distinct functions: leucine zipper dimerization (with c-FOS) to form enhancer-binding protein AP1, TGA(C/G)TCA DNA-binding on the carboxyl end, and transcriptional activation (enhanced by phosphorylation). JUN may also interact with SMAD3/SMAD4 heterodimers. Oncogenic transformation can involve constitutive expression of c- JUN.
