L-Myc Protein Definition
L-MYC Protein belongs to the bZIP family of transcription factors and demonstrates multiple discrete regions of extensive homology to MYC and N-MYC. L-MYC binds DNA as a heterodimer with MAX; efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein. The gene sequence is amplified 10- to 20-fold in the DNA of small-cell lung cancer (SCCL). Several L-MYC mRNAs are produced in SCCL cells from a single gene by alternative splicing and use of alternative polyadenylation signals. (from OMIM 164850, Swiss-Prot P12524, and NCI)
