Loss of Heterozygosity Definition
A genetic abnormality that is characterized by the partial loss of specific gene function via the deletion or mutation of one allele of a heterozygous gene locus. When this occurs at a tumor suppressor gene locus in a phenotype that already contains an abnormal allele, loss of heterozygosity can contribute to neoplastic transformation.
