Human MAGEA12 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of Xq28 and is approximately 26 kb in length. This allele, which encodes melanoma-associated antigen 12 protein, is involved in the mediation of tumor cell recognition by cytotoxic T-cells and may play a role in spermatogenesis.
