MAX Dimerization Protein-1 Definition
MAX Dimerization Protein 1, encoded by the MAD gene, belongs to a subfamily of MAX-interacting proteins. MAD competes with MYC for binding to MAX to form a sequence-specific DNA-binding complex. MAD acts as a transcriptional repressor while MYC appears to function as an activator) and is a candidate tumor suppressor gene. (from LocusLink and NCI)
