MYC-Family Oncogene Definition
Variants of proto-oncogenes that are members of the MYC family of early response genes, which encode regulatory proteins that act as homo- or hetero-dimers. These aberrant genes are activated by mutations or amplification, resulting in overexpression of the protein products. This can cause uncontrolled cell proliferation.
