Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-2 Alpha Definition
Chemokines are small, mostly basic, related molecules that regulate trafficking of leukocytes through interactions with GPCRs. In response to endotoxin, macrophages secrete MIP2, a protein with affinity for heparin and a potent chemotactic agent for polymorphonuclear leukocytes that causes a localized inflammatory reaction. (from OMIM 139110 and NCI)
