Matrix Metalloproteinase-14 Definition
Expressed in colon, breast, head, and neck by human MMP14 Gene (M10A Peptidase/MT-MMP Subfamily), 582-aa 66-kDa (precursor) Matrix Metalloproteinase-14 is a potential type I membrane protein endopeptidase expressed at the cell surface that contains a hemopexin-like domain and may bind zinc and calcium ions. MMP14 activates MMP2 protein and progelatinase A by cleavage and hydrolyzes collagenase 3 and the aggrecan interglobular domain. MMP14 may trigger tumor cell invasion by activating progelatinase A on the cell surface. (NCI)
