Monofluoroethene Definition
A synthetic, colorless gas that is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It is used primarily in the production of polyvinyl fluoride and other fluoropolymers. Vinyl fluoride is extremely flammable and emits highly toxic hydrogen fluoride gas when burned. Vinyl fluoride metabolites form covalent DNA adducts that attribute to inhibition of DNA replication and to mutagenicity consequences. It is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. (NCI05)
