Neogenin Homolog-1 Protein Definition
Widely expressed human NEO1 Gene (Ig/DCC Family) encodes alternative 1461-aa 60-kDa (precursor) and 1408-aa isoforms of type I membrane protein Neogenin Homolog 1, containing 6 fibronectin type III domains, 4 Ig-like C2-type domains, and roughly 50% amino acid identity to DCC. A possible cell adhesion molecule in many embryonic and adult tissues, NEO1 may be a regulatory protein in the transition of undifferentiated proliferating cells to the differentiated state; chicken neogenin is induced in neural cells immediately before cell cycle withdrawal and terminal differentiation.
