Origin Recognition Complex Subunit-2 Definition
Expression (testes highest) not regulated during cell proliferation, human ORC2L Gene (ORC2 Family) encodes 577-aa 66-kDa nuclear Origin Recognition Complex Subunit 2, one of 6 conserved subunits of the ORC complex that binds to the consensus ACS of Origins in an ATP-dependent manner, serves as a platform for assembly of additional initiation factors such as CDC6 and MCM proteins, initiates DNA replication, and is essential for viability. Bound to origins throughout the cell cycle, ORC and associated factors modulate local chromatin structure to facilitate replication initiation. ORC2L forms a core ORC complex with ORC1L, -3L, -4L, and -5L, interacts with CDC45L and MCM10 (important for replication initiation), and has a role in transcriptional silencing. (NCI)
