Phospholipase C Signaling Pathway Definition
Phospholipase C comes in multiple forms and plays a key role in the signal transduction process for many receptors. Its main function is to hydrolyze phosphatidylinositol diphosphate into diacylglycerol (DG) and inositol triphosphate (IP3). DG is necessary for further activation of Protein Kinase C while IP3 leads to the release of intracellular calcium. (BioCarta)
