Polo-Like Kinase Definition
Polo-like kinase is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in mitosis and required for spermatogenesis. By phosphorylation of the cyclin B1 nuclear export signal, PLK1 may target mitosis-promoting factor to the nucleus during prophase, which is essential for induction and coordination of M-phase. Localized to centrosomes, centromeres/kinetochores, and the spindle midzone, PLK may regulate organization and function of the mitotic apparatus. (from OMIM 602098 and NCI)
