Prohibitin Definition
Encoded by human PHB Gene (Prohibitin Family), evolutionarily conserved ubiquitously expressed Prohibitin is a 272-amino acid 30 kD cytoplasmic antiproliferative protein that inhibits DNA synthesis, regulates proliferation, and may be a tumor suppressor. Prohibitin is expressed in proliferating cells. Mutations in PHB have been linked to sporadic breast cancer. (from Swiss-Prot, OMIM, and NCI)
