Propylenimine Definition

A synthetic, flammable, volatile, colorless oily liquid that is soluble in water, ethanol and most organic solvents. Propylenimine is used in the United States exclusively as an intermediate, and its derivatives are used in the paper, textile, rubber and pharmaceutical industries. Due to its volatility, potential exposure could occur during production, packaging, or use of substances made with this liquid. The primary routes of potential human exposure to propylenimine are inhalation, ingestion and dermal contact. It is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. (NCI05)
