RGS Family Genes encode evolutionarily conserved proteins containing the RGS (Regulator of G protein Signaling) domain and generally function as negative regulators of heterotrimeric G protein signaling; several promote the GTPase activity of G protein alpha-subunits, causing it to revert to its inactive (GDP-bound) form.
