Receptor Desensitization Definition
Involves a reduction of receptor or cellular responsiveness to a continued or increased presence of ligand. Desensitization often involves inhibition of receptor activity or a reduction in the pool of available receptors, which alters the activity of associated signal transduction pathways and cellular physiology.
