Serine Protease Inhibitor Kazal Type-1 Definition
SPINK1 is secreted from pancreatic acinar cells into pancreatic juice and is thought to prevent trypsin-catalyzed premature activation of pancreatic zymogens. It is also found in serum and various normal tissues; SPINK1 is produced by gastrointestinal tract mucosa where it may protect mucosal cells from proteolytic breakdown. (from OMIM 167790 and NCI)
