Somatostatin Receptor-4 Definition
Somatostatin binds to a group of structurally related tissue-specific high-affinity integral membrane GPCRs (family 1), coupled via G proteins to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. Somatostatin Receptor 4 is specifically expressed in human fetal and adult brain, lung, and stomach, and less in kidney, pituitary, and adrenals. SSTR4 also activates arachidonate release and the MAP kinase cascade. (from OMIM 182454, SWISS-PROT P31391, and NCI)
