Spermidine-Spermine N1-Acetyltransferase Definition
Encoded by human SAT Gene, 171-aa 20-kDa cytoplasmic Spermidine/Spermine N1-Acetyltransferase is a highly regulated homotetrameric rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolic polyamine metabolism pathway that regulates intracellular polyamine concentration and polyamine transport out of cells. SAT acts on putrescine, spermidine, spermine, N(1)-, and N(8)-acetylspermidine and catalyzes N(1)-acetylation of spermidine and spermine. (NCI)
