Stem Cell Transplantation Definition
A method of replacing the immature blood-forming cells lost due to high-dose chemotherapy, and possibly radiation therapy, used to destroy leukemia cells. The stem cells are given to the patient after treatment to help the bone marrow recover and continue producing healthy blood cells.
