T-20 Definition
An antiretroviral peptide with activity against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 1. Enfuvirtide binds to the first heptad-repeat (HR1) in the gp41subunit of the viral envelope glycoprotein, thereby preventing conformational changes required for fusion of viral and cellular membranes. This inhibits the fusion of viral and cellular membranes and prevents the virus from entering host cells.
