TRF1-Interacting Nuclear Protein-2 Definition
TERF1 (TRF1)-Interacting Nuclear Factor 2 (TINF2), encoded by the TINF2 gene, is a 50-kD telomere-associated protein. TINF2 regulates telomere length and prevents excessive telomere elongation. TINF2 binds telomeric DNA-binding-protein (TRF1) and is an essential mediator of TRF1 function. Three isoforms, 1, 2, and 3, may be produced by alternative splicing. TINF2 is detected in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. (From Swiss_Prot, LocusLink)
